Hope everyone had a nice weekend?  Here in Massachusetts, we finally had a beautiful weekend with lots of sun and warm weather.  This is the first weekend since March 16th we haven’t had rain.  It’s very nice to see the sun again, and I hope it’s here to stay!

With the sun shining and the birds chirping, I”m showcasing a friendship card made with the Free As A Bird Stamp Set.  I chose crumb cake and petal ink for the colors and used the Layered Leaves 3D Embossing Folder to add some texture to the petal pink layer. The images and sentiments were stamped with tuxedo memento black ink, colored the images with my Stampin’ Blends and added a little bit of clear Wink of Stella on the belly of the birds and the flowers to jazz them up a bit.  I sponged around the whisper white layer with petal pink ink and adhered a piece of the new pretty scalloped lace trim to the bottom of the crumb cake layer.

The inside sentiment is from the Strong & Beautiful stamp set and the bird in the bottom right corner is the single bird sitting on the end of the large branch with 3 other birds from the Free As A Bird stop set.  I only stamped that one single bird that is separated from the other three.  Below is a crumb cake and pool party version of the same card.

Did you notice how pretty the images look colored with the Stampin’ Blends?  The Stampin’ Blends are alcohol based so you need to stamp your images with Memento ink which will not bleed when coloring with this tool.  What I really like about the blends is, the ink flows smoothly and the coverage is super, and you can also  shade with them.  How neat is that?!?!    I have all the coloring tools that Stampin’ Up! offers ie, watercolor pencils, Stampin’ Write Markers, inks for watercoloring and of course the Stampin’ Blends.  I use all the coloring tools depending on the project.  I really enjoy watercoloring with my inks and aqua painter but the tools I use the most are my Stampin’ Blends!

If you haven’t used the blends yet, you may want to get a combo pack of a light and dark color of your choice.  A combo pack only cost $9 so its an inexpensive item to try.  See for yourself how the ink flows smoothly from the pen –  gives you the coverage you want and how easy it is to blend the light and dark colors for shading. The stampin’ blends and other coloring tools are on page 179 in the annual catalog.  The color choices coordinate with a variety of our color collection palettes along with the new In Colors for 2019-2021.

  • Petal Pink or Pool Party Layers – 4″ x 5 1/4″ (emboss the front layers with the Layered Leaves 3D embossing folder)
    • Inside Layers – stamp the bird that is separated from he other 3 sitting on the large branch and color with Stampin’ Blends
  • Whisper White Layer – 1 3/4″ x 4 1/2″ to stamp images and color with Stampin’ Blends
  • Crumb Cake Layer – 2″ x 4 3/4″
  • Scalloped Lace Trim – 4 3/4 ( adhere with a light bead of multipurpose liquid glue along the bottom edge of the crumb cake layer)

This was a fun and easy card to make and I like it in both colors.  This card that can be used for any occasion by changing the sentiments.  It’s also fun to make cards with different colored card bases and layers.  Have some fun, play around with it, and you’ll be amazed at how different they all look just by changing the colors of the cardstock and sentiments.   Enjoy!
