Today, I’m showcasing the Sailing Home Stamp Set and Smooth Sailing Dies in a masculine birthday card. My husbands birthday is the 18th of this month so, this card I made for him. Even though he doesn’t sail, he likes the water and watching the boats go by so, I thought this card was appropriate for his summer birthday.
The sail boats were stamped in Night of Navy ink and with my blender pen, I pulled out the blue color on two of sailboats and colored the boat in the middle with my stampin’ blends in real red and soft suede. I used the Smooth Sailing Dies to not only cut out the sail boats but also the ships wheel and the whisper white stamped label. The greeting was stamped in Night of Navy ink and is from the Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set.
The strip of balmy blue cardstock in the center of the card was embossed with the new High Seas 3D embossing folder. The new 3D embossing folders are thinner than what we’ve had in the past and, they go through the big shot a lot easier. However, they do need a shim to get a good impression and the regular acrylic plates that you would normally use are a little too thin so, Stampin’ Up! came out with a slightly thicker 3D Embossing Plate which is what I used to get a good impression. I think you’ll agree it looks really good.
Getting back to the design of the card, I wrapped the Night of Navy/Sahara Sand Bakers Twine around the bottom of the balmy blue layer to break up the water from the rest of the card, and with a dot of multipurpose liquid glue in the center of the ships wheel, I attached it to the twine and then with snail, attached the the stamped label on top of the wheel.
Being a masculine card, I couldn’t add bling to dress it up but I did add an anchor from the Sail Away Trinkets which I think is perfect for this card. As I’m looking at the finished card, I could have looped the anchor through the bottom row of the bakers twine and then glue it down. Hmmm, I guess I’ll try that on the next card!
The inside is very simple with just the compass and the sentiment stamped in Night of Navy ink. The sentiment is from the Special Celebrations stamp set.
