Here’s another card we made in class last weekend.  It’s a simple but elegant card made with a die from the In The Woods Die set.  The dies coordinate with the Winter Woods stamp set but all we used was one die for this card.  The greeting on the front is from the Itty Bitty Christmas stamp set and the sentiment/background on the inside is from the Frosted Foliage stamp set.

I chose Night of Navy for the base and coordinated it with a layer of Seaside Spray that I embossed with the Subtles 3D embossing folder which makes the background look like linen.  Soft and elegant!    I used the largest straight-edged oval from the Layering Oval Dies to cut out the center of the whisper white top layer and stamped the greeting with Night of Navy ink.  The top oval white layer was popped up with stampin’ dimensionals.

Before adhering the tree to the card, I ran a bead of  Shimmery Crystals Effects along the edges of the tree branches that pop up and sprinkled them with the Ice Stampin’ Glitter which makes the edges of the tree sparkle with snow.  I’m really liking the Shimmery Crystal Effects and Ice Stampin’ Glitter that was introduced in the Holiday Catalog.  It’s the perfect addition to jazzing up cards for any occasion.   Especially with winter coming, the Shimmery Crystal Effects and Ice Stampin’ Glitter is perfect for those cards that feature snow.    However, it’s just not to feature snow, Shimmery Crystal Effects and Ice Stampin’ Glitter can jazz up any image on any card for any occasion.

The inside layer was stamped with Seaside Spray and Night of Navy.

Measurements:

  • Night of Navy Card Base – 4 1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5 1/2″
  • Seaside Spray Layer – 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Whisper White Front Layer – 3 3/4″ x 5″ and Inside Layer – 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Whisper White to Cut out the Tree – 2 1/2″ x 3 3/4″

This card was a big hit in my class as everyone liked the colors and how elegant it looked.  As much as I like the traditional Christmas colors, its nice to change it up a bit and use a variety of different colors for Christmas cards.   It’s not etched in stone that you have to use traditional colors for Christmas.  Try something different – you just might like it!
